Thank You for a Wonderful Year!
First, we'd like to thank you very much for supporting the California Golf Course Owners Association (CGCOA) this year! Your support plays a significant role in our efforts to stimulate market growth for California's golf course industry.
Throughout 2016, our members enjoyed various educational and networking opportunities.
Members enjoyed opportunities to network with industry peers:
Our Western States Reception in February during this year's Golf Business Conference was well-received. We held the reception at the gorgeous Nolan Rooftop in San Diego - an open air venue perched 14 stories above the San Diego skyline with exceptional panoramic vistas of the city. We enjoyed an evening full of networking, delicious food, entertainment and more at our Grammy Awards-themed event.
We informed our members of how new social media trends and platforms can benefit their courses:
In April we held our CGCOA Northern California Educational Conference at Yocha Dehe Golf Course in Brooks, and our CGCOA Southern California Educational Conference in July at Tustin Ranch Golf Club in Tustin. The theme of both of our Educational Conferences was "The High Tech Golf Course.” Members heard presentations by a variety of representatives who discussed how social media, apps and other tools can help golf courses increase their bottom line.
We kept our members updated on state laws that impact them:
CGCOA offered a free employment law webinar in June entitled “Hot Topics In Employment Law: Upcoming and Existing Laws That Can Affect Every Employer," presented by representatives of the law firm of Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard. Members received important and timely information on topics such as the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act "White Collar" Overtime Exemptions, Gender Discrimination, and Mandatory Paid Sick Leave in California.
4th Annual CGCOA Benefit Tournament:
Our 4th Annual CGCOA Benefit Tournament was held October 19 at Anaheim Hills Golf Course in Anaheim. The tournament was a success, with proceeds from the tournament supporting our advocacy efforts, educational opportunities and programs. Members and industry peers enjoyed great company, networking, golf and an overall day of fun!
Helping golf courses improve revenue:
We concluded our year with our CGCOA Annual Meeting in November at Summitpointe Golf Club in Milpitas. With this year's focus on "Lessons From Other Industries,” members heard from representatives from the San Jose Sharks, Search Strategy Marketing, The ORCA Report, Winchester Mystery House and Marriott International on what golf courses can learn from other industries to increase operational performance. We also handed out our CGCOA Annual Awards, which you can read about on our website.
As we turn the calendar to the new year, we look forward to another productive year on behalf of California's golf courses. We appreciate your support of CGCOA, and look forward to continuing to offer our members the best in government advocacy, education, and networking.
